When your dovetails go south

Ever had one of those days where your dovetail joint ends up looking like a jigsaw puzzle piece? I was just assembling a drawer for a client, and instead of a perfect fit, I got the horror show of mismatched angles. Makes me appreciate the art of precision — but man, does it provide a good laugh for everyone at the shop.

I’ve had my share of wonky dovetails too! It’s all about that consistent angle, right? One day I’ll master it — maybe after several more ‘puzzle pieces’ :joy: Have you tried using a dovetail jig?

‌‍‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‍‌‌

I’ve found that using a marking gauge can really help keep those angles consistent during layout. It’s a game changer for avoiding jigsaw puzzles! Have you ever tried that, @f_andrews123?

I’ve totally been there! A little bit of practice with layout tools can go a long way; I swear by my marking gauge for clean lines. How’s your progress on those angles coming along, @t_mason55?
