Had a chisel take a dive when the anti-roll flat didn’t catch; I slip a thin silicone O‑ring near the ferrule as a “speed bump” so it won’t wander off the bench, but I pull it off when paring tight to a guide.
I like @jillcarpenter12’s O‑ring idea; I clamp a 12" oak batten with a shallow routed trough at the bench edge so round handles nest and can’t roll, and I line the groove with thin leather to be gentle on edges. If you don’t want to rout, rip a 3/4" dowel in half and use the flat side down as a quick “parking rail”.
I stuck a 1/2" rare‑earth magnet strip under a thin leather “soft stop” along the bench edge; steel chisels kiss the leather and stay put — just note it can lightly magnetize the edge, which hasn’t bothered me.
Quick fix that stuck for me: a single clear cabinet-bumper dot on the handle just behind the ferrule — tiny nub plus the “anti-roll flat” means it parks instead of drifting. Costs a couple bucks and takes 10 seconds; only watch that oily finishes can lift the adhesive, so wipe with alcohol first or use heat-shrink if you’re in a humid shop.
